Swimming names Scholastic All-America Team

USA Swimming has
announced the selection of its Scholastic All-America Team for
2007-08. Nine-hundred and seventy-four athletes made the team this
year, including 600 women and 374 men. Sixty-eight percent of the
successful applicants had a 4.0 GPA.

Bal, Kirk double up on gold at FINA

The 2008 FINA Swimming World Cup kicked off October 10-12 in Belo
Horizonte, Brazil. On the first of the seven-stop series, National
Teamers Randall Bal and Tara Kirk each picked up two gold
medals.

Swimming Grand Prix Series returns

The top swimmers in the country will return
to the pool for the 2008-2009 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series. For
the second year in a row, swimmers will be awarded points for
medals earned at the six meets. A $20,000 purse will be awarded to
the swimmer with the most points at the conclusion of the
series.

Fundraiser for coach Michael Lohberg

The Coral Springs Swim Club will host a
“3K Family Fun Run, Walk, Stroll” Nov. 16 at the Coral
Springs Aquatic Center. The event will raise money for coach
Michael Lohberg’s family, to help defray the cost of medical
bills incurred by Lohberg’s battle with Aplastic
Anemia.

Jones
to host fundraiser for aquatics program

Olympic gold medalist Cullen Jones, in
association with aloft Philadelphia Airport hotel, will host a
fundraising event on October 17 to raise money and bring awareness
to the Salvation Army’s Ray & Joan Kroc Center Aquatic
Program.
